The sheer delight and novelty of that communication—and of being able to search up the lyrics to your favourite songs. It was fundamentally about human connection.
When a speech act is actively seeking an audience, it becomes increasingly self-conscious and self-reflexive. This is intensified when expression is mediated through algorithms and growth metrics. Speaking becomes more natural and confident when you become an audience to your self first—speaking to the audience you already have, and the one you imagine your self to have.
